Bummins Tot Bots Easy Fit Pocket Diaper

The Green Nursery provided this diaper for review. For information on how we attempt to ensure our product reviews are as honest and fair to diaper creators as possible, please click here.

Please note that the EasyFit V4 has been discontinued. For information about the most recent iteration of the diaper, the EasyFit Star, you can read my review HERE.

After almost 5 years of cloth diapering and trying just about every style of diaper, I've finally realized that right now what I value in a diaper (besides containing bodily fluids!) is simplicity. The days of casually folding diaper laundry while watching TV in the evenings are gone. These days I no longer have time for hunting down special inserts or stuffing pocket diapers. What I want is a diaper I can take out of the dryer, stick in a drawer, and put on a baby with as little extra effort as possible, which is why I find myself reaching for my All In Ones (AIOs) more than ever before.

When I reviewed the Tots Bots TeenyFit newborn AIO I said that if you have a large baby (like Gavin) then you might be better off skipping the newborn diaper and moving to their one size (OS) option. Luckily for me, The Green Nursery also sent me the Tots Bots EasyFit V4 OS AIO to try, and it's the perfect diapering option for a heavy wetting infant with a mom in a hurry!

Are you looking for a cloth diaper with the ease of a disposable (and super absorbent, to boot?). The Tots Bots EasyFit All In One Cloth Diaper might be for you! So many people love this diaper, and it's easy to see why.

Materials/Features

The Tots Bots EasyFit V4 is an AIO, which means that the absorbent and waterproof components are attached and the diaper is designed to be used once and then washed. AIOs are as close to a disposable diaper as you can get in terms of manner and ease of use.

Many of the features of the diaper are the same as the TeenyFit, just on a larger scale. The outside of the diaper is waterproof PUL, and the absorbent interior of the diaper is comprised of the same "binky" fabric as the TeenyFit. Binky is a term coined by Tots Bots – the top of the material is 50% bamboo/50% organic cotton, and the back is a 100% micropolyester minky (bamboo+minky=binky!).

Tots Bots EasyFit V4 - Front Interior

Just like with the TeenyFit, I was initially thrown by the fact that the natural fibers going against baby's skin look an awful lot like microfiber (which isn't supposed to go directly against your baby). However, this kind of weave is not exclusive to microfiber (it's just the most common way you see it!) and it means that the fabric is as absorbent as bamboo and organic cotton are famous for being, but the nap of the fabric and inclusion of the minky help the diaper dry faster. It's the best of both worlds!

The absorbent binky fabric is in the center of the diaper, and surrounding that is a layer of brushed anti-wick polyester. This ensures that even if the perimeter of the diaper were to slightly roll away from your baby's body, the absorbent fabric (which is the part that would allow the moisture to wick onto your baby's clothes) won't be exposed.

Nothing can keep a diaper from leaking if it's TOTALLY saturated, but this extra layer of protection is appreciated by those of us with heavy-wetters!

All Tots Bots diapers are Oko-tex certified, which means that no harmful chemicals are used at any point in the production process.

The elastic along the back of the diaper is gentle against your baby's skin, but tall and strong enough to keep messes contained. It gives the diaper a lot of stretch to get the best possible fit around the waist.

Tots Bots EasyFit V4 - Back Elastic

I feel like you don't usually notice the back elastic on most diapers, but on the EasyFit V4 it's very noticeable! It's neither a good or bad thing, just part of how the diaper looks.

Insert

The Tots Bots EasyFit V4 has a tongue or snake style insert – it is attached to the diaper at one end but is loose at the other. This gives you the convenience of a true AIO but makes the diaper easier to wash and quicker to dry.Tots Bots EasyFit V4 - Insert And Booster Snapped Together

The EasyFit V4 also comes with an optional booster that snaps onto the main insert of the diaper.

Tots Bots EasyFit V4 - Booster

Gavin is such a heavy wetter that we almost always use the booster, just in case he randomly takes an extra long nap before I have a chance to change him again. We have to move from the small to medium rise settings in order to do so, though, so keep that in mind when determining whether the diaper would fit on a larger (also heavy wetting) child. On rare occasions the booster will come unsnapped in the wash, but it usually remains attached so that I don't have to hunt it down.

I should note that with the booster attached, many other bloggers have been able to use the EasyFit V4 overnight. That hasn't been our experience so far, but could change when Gavin is not waking up to eat so frequently at night! I would definitely agree that it is a more absorbent option out of the box than many other brands, though.

The EasyFit V4 has a pocket opening at the back of the diaper that you stuff the insert into. When the diaper is soiled, you can place it directly into your wet bag or diaper pail without having to unstuff the insert (it will agitate out in the washing machine).

Tots Bots EasyFit V4 - Back Pocket Opening

I know I said I was in too much of a hurry these days for pocket diapers, but this doesn't take long since it's already attached to the rest of the diaper. I've also tried stuffing different kinds of inserts into the pocket opening instead of using the included Tots Bots booster, but so far we have gotten the best fit using the Tots Bots one.

To keep the insert from poking out the back of the diaper, there is an additional layer of brushed anti-wick polyester fabric that covers the pocket opening.

Fabric poking out the back of a diaper and wicking onto my baby's clothes is a personal pet peeve, so I love it when companies take this extra step to prevent leaks!

Closures

The Tots Bots EasyFit V4 is available in hook and loop closure (there is no snap closure option). The hook and loop can be overlapped, which means you can get a snug fit around the waist on even a very young or particularly skinny baby.

While I typically prefer snap closures on my diapers (because they generally last longer than hook and loop material does) Tots Bots has probably the most universally loved hook and loop of any brand out there. It's strong and holds up well over time, and there's no arguing the fact that it makes for a quicker diaper change than snaps do!

To keep your diapers from snagging or attaching to other items in the washing machine, the EasyFit V4 has laundry tabs. Laundry tabs are essentially a piece of "loop" fabric that you fold the "hook" fabric back onto.

Tots Bots EasyFit V4 - Laundry Tabs

I personally prefer it when the laundry tabs are larger than the "hook" tab you need to peel off of it. Performance wise the laundry tabs on the EasyFit V4 are fine, but sometimes I need two hands to undo them and when I'm in the middle of a diaper change I prefer a setup that only needs one hand! But that might just be my personal quirk, since I've yet to see anyone else complain about it on a review!

Colors/Prints

The EasyFit V4 is available in a variety of bold solid colors (including red, green, purple, blue, orange, and white) and a variety of prints.

Tots Bots frequently releases limited edition prints and the selection available across retailers tends to vary, but their prints are generally creative and highly in demand.

I received the EasyFit V4 in the "Tweet" print, and loved that it was unique, colorful without being too bright, and adorable on a baby of either gender!

Sizing

The EasyFit V4 is a one-size diaper, which means that you adjust the rise of the diaper using the snaps on the front of it so that it fits children for a long period of time (in this case, the EasyFit V4 is advertised to fit from 8-35 pounds).

Tots Bots EasyFit V4 - Largest SettingAt approximately 5 months old and 17 pounds, Gavin can wear the EasyFit V4 on the smallest rise setting WITHOUT the additional booster (pictured below), or the medium rise setting WITH the extra booster (not pictured). Before potty training, Emily (at not quite 3 years old and approximately 24 pounds) also wore the diaper with the attached booster on the medium rise setting.

Tots Bots EasyFit V4 on 17 Pound Infant

Gavin was just under 8.5 pounds at birth and definitely did not fit into the EasyFit V4 right away. Just like most newborns, even though he technically fit the weight range for this diaper it was too wide between the legs and loose at the legs to fit him properly. The absorbency was more appropriate than the TeenyFit for the amount Gavin ate, though, so once his thighs chunked up a bit more the diaper became one of my favorites in our stash. There was a time when he technically fit into both the TeenyFit and the EasyFit V4, but unless I knew he would only be in the diaper for a very short period of time, I chose the EasyFit V4 for him.

I don't know how well this diaper would fit very chunky babies (since mine tend to be pretty lean) or older/taller children (I didn't have an EasyFit V4 when Nathan was in diapers, but I have trouble believing that it would have been big enough for him at 35 pounds) but for the average size child who potty trains at an average age, I can see this diaper fitting from (near) birth to (near) potty training ages!

Price

$24.95 for solids, $26.95 for prints

Conclusions And Overall Impressions

The Tots Bots EasyFit V4 is a trim, absorbent, and easy to use diaper that pretty much everyone seems to adore. The price is at the higher end of the cloth diapering spectrum (as is typical for AIOs) but you definitely get what you pay for. This is a diaper I expect will continue to hold up well over time and if I ever sell it, I expect that the resale value will be higher than average (because buyers are aware of the quality and reputation of the brand).

If you think you're likely to have an itty bitty baby who is slow to grow (like Nathan and Emily were), then I think having a few TeenyFits in your stash would be the ideal way to start cloth diapering from birth. For a larger baby (like Gavin), though, I think the wise move would be to skip the TeenyFit and move directly to the EasyFit V4. The price difference between the two diapers is only $3, so rather than have a TeenyFit and an EasyFit V4 on my stash, I'd be better off buying two EasyFits (since those will fit longer and I will get a better bang for my buck).

Essentially, though, the EasyFit V4 is the diaper I'd probably consider the best choice for someone looking for an option as close to a disposable diaper as possible. It's easy to get a good fit with, goes on much like a disposable, and with the insert tucked into the pocket there aren't any extra pieces to confuse those less familiar with cloth diapers. The fact that it's adorable is just an added bonus!
