The Basics
Galactic Command is a brand new progression system coming in Star War The Old Republic's newest expansion, Knights of the Eternal Throne. Premium players (subscribers), who have reached Level 70, can access Galactic Command from anywhere! With every battle you face you earn Command Rank, unlocking increasingly more powerful rewards.
Main Window UI
Please, note: the Galactic Command Window has been removed from the game as of Update 5.6, but all its features still exist in other places. Most of them are now a part of the Activities Window. For more info, check out this article: Everything about SWTOR Patch 5.6: A Traitor Among the Chiss.
To access the Galactic Command interface, press CTRL+G by default, or click the Galactic Command icon which is located at the top of your screen.
To learn more about each part, click on the gold links below.
- Window Title – tells us what feature of the game we have opened. The UI of the Galactic Command is more complex and "attratcite" to look at, so its title is moved up and above the what would be main row with the "X" (close) button.
- Character role – Select what role you want to perform in your next activity from this drop-down menu. It is only useful for the group content, such as Uprisings, Operations, Flashpoints, Warzones.
- Command Rank – shows your current command rank. The higher rank you are, the slower your progress to the next level will be, but the better the rewards.
- Next Rank Progress – shows how far or close you are from the next Command Rank Level. The Command Rank Leveling is not based on a static scale, but instead gets slower and harder (more time consuming) with higher ranks.
- Command Crates – this button leads you to the Command Crates opening UI, where you can pick up and open any Crates you have available from your recent Command Rank leveling.
- Available Activities – These animated (upon a mouse-over) thumbnails represent the 7 currently available activities, part of the Galactic Command – Planetari Missoins, KOTFE and KOTET Repeatable Chapters, Flashpoints, Uprisings, Operations, Warzones and Galactic Starfighter. Most of them offer 3 difficulty modes – Story, Veteran and Master.
- Daily Bonus – each day of the week a different activity will be marked with this gold "bonus" icon. Do the daily bonus activities to earn more Command XP points.
- Uprisings – Special attention to this thumbnail in the middle, since this is currently the only way for you to participate in the new Uprisings instances.
- Dark vs Light Bar – shows your current progress and who currently rules your Galaxy (your server).
Command Rank Tiers
For the start of the expansion, Bioware have set 4 major tiers for the Galactic Rank progression system. Each character starts as a Rank 1 and can earn Command XP to rise up to Rank 300, which is the hard cap. At each new Rank level from 1 to 300 the character will receive a Command Crate with 4 random items, based on the character's current Command Rank Tier. The 4 tiers are as follows:
- First Tier: Command Rank 1 to 89 (gear rating 230)
- Second Tier: Command Rank 90 to 179 (gear rating 236)
- Third Tier: Command Rank 180 to 299 (gear rating 242)
- Fourth Tier: Command Rank 300 (gear rating 248) – added with Patch 5.2
In each Command Crate one of the items will always be a gear piece, but it may not always be a mod-able one and with a set-bonus. There will be schematics for mods and gear pierces that can be crafted. The crafted items will always be without a set bonus and 2 levels lower than their set piece containing counterpart. This means that schematics from Tier 2 will produce items rating 234, from Tier 3 – items rating 240 and Tier 4 – items rating 246.

Updates related to CXP earnings with Patch 5.1.1
- All Command Experience Points (CXP) gains, CXP Boosts, and CXP Legacy Perks are now additive instead of multiplicative.
- All CXP Packs that you earn from drops and Missions are now Bind on Legacy.
- A new 100% CXP boost in addition to the existing 15% and 25% boosts. This boost can be purchased from the Command Token vendor or the Cartel Market. This boost only works up to Command Rank 180 and lasts 2 hours (Command Tokens) or 3 hours (Cartel Market).
Updates related to CXP earnings with Patch 5.2
With 5.2 Bioware significantly increased the amount of CXP earned from all sorts of encounters and activities. We also received a new Tier 4, which you will start earning rewards for at Rank 300. For more information on all the 5.2 changes, check out my EndGame Gearing Guide for PvE and PvP!

Updates from Patch 5.6
As of Game Update 5.6, released in November 2017, the Galactic Command Window has been removed and all of its contents and features have been placed in the new Activities Window. The Dark vs Light UI has been moved to the bottom right corner of the Galactic Map. For more info, check Everything about SWTOR Patch 5.6: A Traitor Among the Chiss
Dark vs Light System
Once you have selected your side, you will begin to earn dark or light side points. At this point, you will be able to see your character's alignment as it changes reflected in your character window. You can view your alignment by pressing C (by default) and viewing the dark/light meter on the left side of the character window. As you earn points they get added to your server's total dark or light side points, shifting the balance of the ongoing battle to one side or the other. To tell which way the battle is leaning, as of Patch 5.6,check the Galactic Command window (pressing CTRL+G) and view the dark vs. light meter at the bottom you need to open the Galactic Map (see bottom right corner).
In order to win the battle, your server must reach "Dark 5" or "Light 5." The side that reaches level 5 first is declared the winner of the battle! If your character's alignment matches the winning side, you earn the following benefits:
- Bonus Command Experience points earned
- Dark side tokens whenever you earn a Command Rank
- Access to a special cosmetic item reward vendor
If your character's alignment matches the losing side, you will receive the following benefits:
- A bonus to all light side points earned
- You can take down dark side enemies spawning around the galaxy to earn light side tokens
As one side earns victory, the server enters a "victory state" for a period of time and then the battle resets. It is our goal that victories will happen multiple times every day, so be sure to check-in often! During this "victory state ," the losing side receives a short-term advantage, as all of their alignment point gains will be increased during that time ! Whether you are playing alone or you band together with friends and Guild mates to fight the dark vs. light battle, Galactic Command adds a new level of dark vs. light competition to your gameplay as you continue to fight for your side… for rewards and glory!
